Learn To Curl Classes
Learn To Curl Class - October 20, 2017
Learn To Curl Class - October 20, 2017
Interested in learning how to curl? The Cincinnati Curling Club is happy to invite you out to learn how to curl like an Olympian. We have a full team of qualified instructors who will guide you through the entire process.
We are anticipating a large amount of interest in our Learn To Curl Classes, with almost every class that we offer selling out. So don't wait to long to sign up, as spots will start to fill up fast.
All Learn To Curl Classes will take place at Sports Plus, which is located at 10765 Reading Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45241. We will be curling on the Canada Rink at Sports Plus.
We ask that you arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start of each class to allow time for proper registration and waivers to be filled out. (Anyone under the age of 18 will require a parent or guardian to sign the waiver for them)
Training begins with some off ice classroom training, where you will have the rules and lingo of curling explained to you. You will also see a video demonstration, showing what proper technique looks like.
Afterwards, you will be taken onto the ice, and you will perform various exercises and drills to get you trained on how to curl.
Finally you will get to play a mini-game of curling.
In total, the class last about 2 hours from the time the off ice training begins to the time that the on ice activities are over.
Prior to your learn to curl class class, please complete an on-ice waiver using the link below. Each class participant must fill out a waiver in order to participate on-ice. If a minor is participating, a parent or guardian should fill out the minor waiver.
Q – Do I need any special equipment? A – All curling related equipment will be provided by the Cincinnati Curling Club
Q – What should I wear? A – Curling is played on ice, so dress warmly. The typical temperature on the ice is in the mid 40’s. It is best to wear loose fitting clothing, and wear layers. Many curlers wear athletic warm-up pants, yoga pants, or other similar sweat pants. While it is OK to wear jeans, jeans tend to be a little too restrictive in movement allowed for most people. Remember that during curling, you will be getting into a lunge position, so make sure that your clothing allows for this. Another key to clothing is to wear layers. Most people tend to get warm after sweeping for a bit, and they will take off a sweatshirt or other layer to they don’t overheat. It is best to wear gloves that will allow basic dexterity.
Q – What shoes should I wear? A – No Heels, Sandals or open toed shoes are permitted on the ice. It is best to wear normal athletic or running shoes. All shoes must be clean before you will be allowed on the ice. Failure to wear the correct footwear will result in you not being allowed onto the ice.
Q – Do I need to be a member of the Cincinnati Curling Club to come and curl? A – For the Learn To Curl Clinics and Instructional Leagues that we are running, you do not need to be a member to come out and try curling. If you would like to curl in one of our other leagues, you will need to join the club.
Q – If I love curling after my first time, how can I curl more? A – We have all kinds of options for people to join our club. Anyone is welcome to become a member and join our club. We offer multiple curling leagues, ranging from leagues for the highly competitive to instructional leagues intended to help beginners learn the game better.
Q – Can I cancel or modify a reservation that I have made? A – Unfortunately spots cannot be cancelled or modified once they have been booked.
The Cincinnati Curling Club will be running a Sunday Morning Fall open curling league starting in November 2017. The cost for this league is $120 per person for Cincinnati Curling Club Members. We require everyone on your team to be a member of the curling club due to liability reasons. Membership Fees for the year are $80 per member and if you paid your dues for the fall or winter league your dues are already paid . As always, curling gear will be provided, you simply need to dress properly.
These leagues are in line with traditional sports leagues. In general, they are intended for people who have curled before, and would like to be in a semi-competitive environment, rather than an instructional environment.
Proper footwear is required. Please wear CLEAN athletic shoes (NO heels, sandals, or open toe shoes). We regret that we will be unable to allow people onto the ice who do not have proper footwear.
The dates of the league play will be
November: 5, 12, 19, 26
Dec: 10, 17 $120 Per Person Cost - Able to sign up as an individual or as a team
Games will be played as 6 end games, with ice prep starting at 8:30AM and the first end beginning at approximately 9:00. Unlike previous years, a strict time frame will be enforced and we must be off the ice by 10:45AM. Slow play will result in shorter games. Please contact us at league@cincinnaticurlingclub..com with any questions that you may have
We will have 5 sheets of curling on an ice rink. League sign up priority will be based on when a person registers. Payment can be made via PayPal at the time of registration or by check. Offline check payment is preferred (as there are no fees that are paid for the credit card transaction). Please mail check to:

Membership Sign Up using SmartWaiver:
This year CCC will be using SmartWaiver for its member application and waiver. This brings the application and waiver to an online platform. CCC will be able to easily update member data using its MailChimp platform. Participants will receive an electronic copy of their waiver. Allows corporate events, learn to curls, etc. to sign waivers in advance. CCC will be able to easily update participant data after events using MailChimp and make follow up contact, hopefully transitioning them to future membership and/or league play.
